1157 designconcepts was selected to complete recognition environments for Tsongas Center and Costello Center. With a focus on hockey, the displays designed for Tsongas Center captured hall of fame recipients and championship teams along with the rich history of UMass’s hockey program. Graphic images depicted the highlights with a time line. An interactive touch screen feature allows the viewer to engage further into the history of the program. The hall of fame recipients were again honored with their picture and written narrative of their accomplishments. Integral to the display area is a trophy case holding the championship team trophies.

Coordination of graphic images and time sensitive production were key elements in completing the project successfully.

Costello Center was looking for an updated look. Starting with creating an interior backdrop of existing display cases and revamping the all-conference plaque display, 1157 designconcepts began laying the ground work for a cohesion presentation of the athletic history of UMass -Lowell. As the university evolved, three distinct periods relating to the naming of the institution were recognized. Large graphic images depict the accomplishments and highlights during these periods. Planning allows for the continuation of graphic history.

Dana Skinner, Director of Athletics, led the UMass team. Various departments within UMass were critical in completion of the projects – development, athletics, facilities, IT, marketing along with the construction company team members. Communication and project management were key.

Quote from Dana Skinner – “1157 design delivered high quality, cost effective, and exciting historical graphic displays that captured the University’s long tradition of athletic triumphs and helped us to re-connect with our alumni community. Our overall experience with the entire 1157 team – from the designers to the installers – was excellent.”
