1157 designconcepts 's history is an evolutionary movement from old technologies into new.
Originally founded in 1948, as News Engravers, the company produced zinc engravings
for The Sidney Daily News. (Prior to offset printing, images or logos had to be
transformed into etched zinc plates for letterpress printing.)
In 1962, News Engravers merged with Sidney Printing and Publishing to create Amos
Press, Inc. Within the new company the News Engravers organization became the
Industrial Nameplate Division. In 1974, Amos Press moved to its new facility on
Vandemark Road, and switched to offset printing, rendering obsolete the former mainstay
of the division, letterpress printing. Instead, the nameplate division focused totally on
industrial product identification and recognition products.
In 1988, as the result of corporate restructuring, 1157 designconcepts was formed as a wholly
owned subsidiary of Amos Press. The new company also moved to its current location, a
modern 35,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.
In 1999, building on the success of its recognition services, 1157 designconcepts created a
separate business unit, The Recognition Division, and built a new facility to
accommodate the division. The Division specializes in design and manufacture of on-site
donor recognition systems using a variety of materials. Offering on-site consultation,
creative design, and on-time delivery services, the division provides unique, attractive,
and functional recognition displays.
Spanning over half a century now, 1157 designconcepts continues to innovate and improve, not
only in its products and processes, but in its dedication to providing superior customer
service.
